In industrial process control, radar level gauges are highly favored due to their high accuracy and wide applicability. However, distortion issues may affect measurement accuracy, which has always been a challenge for technicians. This article summarizes the factors that cause distortion in radar level sensors and corresponding solutions, in order to provide valuable reference for you.
Reasons and solutions for distortion
In working conditions such as high dust, strong adhesion, and humidity, materials may adhere to the antenna of the radar level gauge, causing radar waves to be unable to transmit normally or penetrate the adhered objects, resulting in false echoes. To solve this problem, a purge port can be added to the radar level gauge.
If there are obstacles such as metal supports and stirring blades in the measured storage tank/reactor, they will hinder the electromagnetic waves emitted by the radar level gauge from contacting the level and feedback false echoes, resulting in distortion. It is worth noting that if the radar level gauge is installed above the feed inlet, similar obstacles may also occur. The solution to this problem is to adjust the installation position of the radar level gauge to avoid these obstacles.
Measure the unevenness of the material surface
When adding or emptying granular or solid material silos, it may cause uneven material levels inside the tank. At this point, the radar level gauge receives an uneven material surface, which may cause the radar wave to refract and prevent the radar level gauge from receiving feedback, resulting in distortion. In response to this situation, a universal flange can be installed to make the measuring surface level with the material surface, in order to receive accurate information.
The radar level measurement range is too small
When measuring the height of the material level, the radar level gauge may have certain blind spots. If the material tank is too small or the blind spot is too large, it may cause the material level to rise to the blind spot, making it impossible to detect the actual height of the material level and causing distortion. To address this issue, the height from the flange surface to the tank top can be increased, and radar level gauges with smaller blind spots and higher accuracy can be selected, or the blind spot parameters of the radar level gauge can be adjusted to solve this problem.
